What does an editor do?

An editor comes alongside an author to ensure

  • correctness (perfection of grammar, punctuation, and manuscript elements);
  • clarity (ensure that the intended audience will understand the author);
  • consistency (to an accepted editorial style);

An editor functions as the advocate for the intended reader. A good editor will help ensure that the author's  message is completely understood.
